It may seem counterintuitive, but sometimes the thing that needs doing should not be done first. If the optimal path to deliver the thing has not been realized, then optimizing the path is the thing that makes doing the next batch of things more efficient. Yes, the original thing will take longer to deliver as you build the optimal path, however, the next several things, even being the same scope as the original thing, will take a fraction of the time to do. Rinse. Repeat.
